Good Hands Class
They are the basis of much literature, seminars, clinics, classes, lessons, discussions, controversies and rumors. The hands are such a focal point in our lives for a simple reason, we use them to do most everything in our day to day activities, from eating, grooming, caring for ourselves or others, working our horse, driving our car and so on. We rarely lift anything without the use of our arms. We even use our hands to help emphasize what we are talking about. But in the grand scheme of things, the very abilities of our hands are not often talked about, and this leaves a large void open to interpretation and stumbling blocks.
A trained massage therapist can detect half a degree of temperature change with their fingertips. The number of nerve endings in our fingertips exceeds that of most any other place in our body, giving us huge amounts of information with the touch of our hands. What else is there to know about our hands? Lots!
The development of our hands is vital to any successful endeavor in riding and training horses. Our hands have to fill the void that our language skills cannot in communicating with the horse what we want from him. While our legs, seat and other aids such as a whip can take up the slack for communicating our wishes, we do little without our hands. We lead the horse by holding the lead rope in our hand, we brush the horse using our hand, we saddle, bridle and help ourselves mount using our hands. But once in the saddle we hand over the reins so to speak, to our secondary aids - the legs and seat.
In this unique class, students have the opportunity not only to learn about their hands, but why they are so important in the communication with our horses, and tools to improve the tact and skill of their hands. So go on, sign up today and move closer to your riding goals!
